Bunny book

Children's Book Illustration · 2024 · Oxford Brookes University student

I was approached by a student at Oxford Brookes University to create illustrations for her children's book, which aimed to spread awareness of pet rabbit care to young children. I love animals and illustration, so I was thrilled to work on this project.

I started by sketching the main character, Honey the rabbit, in a few different styles until I found one that fit the story and its target audience. I started sketching on paper, then in Procreate, where it was easier to refine with feedback from the client.

Once the sketches were signed off, I did some value studies to settle on a bright, child-friendly colour palette, adding texture and lineart.

After completing 40 illustrations, I sent them to the client, who assembled the book layout and had it printed. I also designed bookmarks from the finished illustrations for the author to give away with the book, and I'm glad to say the finished copy has become a firm favourite with a young reader in my own family.
